What to Do in a Fire
Fire safety is an important thing to be aware of, no matter where you are. According to the Bureau of Fire Protection, fire incidents have increased by 40% in 2023.
We’ll talk in a separate post about ways you can prevent a fire from happening in the first place, but here are some pointers on what to do if things have already begun to go up in flames.

- Don’t panic. Call emergency services to inform them of the situation.
- Evacuate. Alert the other people in the building with you and evacuate everyone.
- Contain it. If possible, close the door and shut the windows of the room where the fire is located to contain it, starving the fire from
- Cut the gas. Turn off the gas mains if you can reach them
- Extinguish. Get a fire extinguisher and try to put out the fire, but only if you can do so without endangering others.
- Stay low. When escaping through smoke, remember to stay low and close to the walls and avoid the center of the room. Always use the stairs and head to ground level. If there is smoke in the stairwells, stay put.
