Everyday Nutrition Tips

Our bodies do so much for us every day so here are 5 ways you can spice up your healthy eating habits and enjoy it in the process.

  1. Put the phone and other electronics down. Eating more mindfully and slowly allows you to not only enjoy the food in front of you more, but it helps with your metabolism and digestion.
  2. Convenience is your friend. Consider placing a bowl of fruit on your dinner table or in the area of the house you spend the most time in. That way when hunger strikes, you’re more likely to reach for a juicy apple over the tempting bag of chips.
  3. Make it collaborative. As humans we crave connection. When it comes to food, eating together allows you to enjoy your meal, de-stress and has been shown to help with health as food you eat at home is likely to have more healthy nutrients than fast food options. You can also get your kids involved in the process of making food. This allows for a great learning experience about what goes into your little one’s body. Cooking is less expensive and can be fun!
  4. Go green. Even if you tried a veggie in the past and didn’t like it (e.g. ampalaya), maybe try changing your cooking techniques (e.g. soaking the ampalaya in water with salt to decrease its bitterness) or finding a new recipe for that vegetable. You can also try adding greens into your smoothies or desserts to mask any of the unpalatable flavors with sweeter things like fruit, chocolate and peanut butter.
  5. Reward yourself. In addition to indulging in your sweet treat of choice, if you find yourself always spending money on takeout or restaurant dinners, take a week to keep track of how much you spend on this. Then, the following week, make the effort to abstain from any takeout or eating out. Once that week is up, you can use the money you saved to either buy something nice for yourself or spread the love and donate it to your favorite charity.
